It’s funny how time works, day in & day out nothing ever changes. Until one day you look around and realize somehow everything has changed. You’re not sure when things became quite so different but somehow it all has. This past weekend I returned to my family’s place on a lake up in Michigan. I can’t even tell you the last time I was there. I would guess about six or seven years ago. That puts me about in Jr. High.
The drive up was a little hard to remember but I recognized most of the buildings and landmarks along the way. The closer we got the more in detail I could point things out. The lake in the middle of the town, the place where I used to eat chocolate chip pancakes, & the familiar sound of Amish taking their horses’ down the road. I remember the smell of the trees and the sound of frogs & crickets singing everyone to sleep.
I finally got my camera out Saturday afternoon/evening. Most of it is just my little cousins playing in the lake.
Below is my favorite image from the trip. It is exactly the way that I have always remembered this place. It is so strange going somewhere that never seems to change and realizing how far I have came myself. I went from being a silly Jr. High kid to a fun high schooler confused on what step was next for me. I went to college and graduated with a degree in Photography. I’ve managed to start my own business and let it grow into something that seems to consume my life. All of the stress and trouble that my life seems to bring me seemed worth it in that moment. I felt proud of myself for doing all that I have and growing into a better person daily. It was so great to stop time for a moment and look at all that I have became. I recommend everyone of you doing the exact same thing.
